I remember as a young boy driving through NYC with my father on our way to some southern destination or to a movie theather to see a movie, the smell of the busses diesel engines running up and down the streets and the sound of their air brakes, the nighttime neon blinking signs all came together to create a surreal atmosphere so different than the quiet Long Island suburban neighborhood that I lived in. I tried to capture something of the sound and smells of NY here in this painting, using an impressionistic style moving toward abstraction.
